Get to Know Me: Makenzie Leach

Hey everyone! I’m Makenzie Leach, a blogger. I am 15 years old and I’ve been involved in the sport for about 5 years now. I was 10 years old and constantly begging my parents to let me start lessons. I believe horse crazy is appropriate as to what to call it. I started and never looked back.
This year has been a learning experience for sure. I’ve only gotten to ride about a handful of times. I’ve pretty much been sick consistently throughout the year. Doctors and hospitals have become a regularity. Even though I haven’t gotten to ride as much, I would say it’s been an opportunity to really stand back anIMG_0268d learn to deal with obstacles and become stronger mentally.
I’ve still led a normal life like going to school. Not going to lie, it’s been extremely difficult. My parents have pushed me and although I have missed quite a bit of school, I’m only allowed to miss or leave early when I have an appointment. Which has been the hardest thing and at times embarrassing with being sick and in class. I know it’s made me a tougher person.
Before this I was actively competing and doing IEA competitions. I did own a large pony. She was my pride and joy. I had owned her for several years, but this March I had to make the difficult decision to sell her. It was life changing for me, but I knew I had to go through with it.
I’m looking to get back and involved but until then I’m keeping up with all the latest news and visiting my barn and I’m very thankful to be an original Parlanti ambassador. They are by far the most caring people and I consider them as my family.
I’m having surgery on the 23rd but it should help a lot so hopefully after I recover I can slowly get back into actually riding myself. I’m so thankful to be given these opportunities that let me share my story.
